After designing a collar placement idea from my primary research, I looked to find an artist who has created some collar embroidery.

I printed off a basic collar template and experimented with synthetic and cotton material. The cotton sample created a better shape as the synthetic has frayed and come unstitched in the bottom corner. The collars need to be slightly bigger when I make my final designs so to ensure they are the right size for my garment/garments I will measure for accuracy and bear in mind seam allowance.

Both these designs are hand stitched. The synthetic material involves back and cross stitch. I like the design idea for this sample but I think the eye would look better if machine stitched. I shall try this design idea on a different material and machine stitch to see if it looks better.

The cotton sample features and eye with the witches knot symbol behind. I used satin and whipped running stitch. I like the combination of these two stitches but if I could change the colour of the whipped running stitch I would use black. To develop this design idea I would make the shapes more in proportion and used different colours.
